    Rating

Superb accessory. I was using Filmoplast P90 but found it too thin and fragile for the large, heavy serigraphs I have been pulling. I looked up the specs and found out that this 25 mm wide Framer’s Tape II is an archival grade self-adhesive, polypropylene tape, that’s acid and solvent free. Specs also say that it contains no harmful plasticizers, with a moisture proof and non-porous film backing. Just what the doctor ordered!

Description

This Framer's Tape II is a specialized, acid-free, solvent-free, archival and yet, highly versatile, picture framing tape.  Made from Mylar, it is flexible, moisture-proof, tough and stronger than linen, Kraft, gummed, or other paper tapes.  It is stable, reliable and lasting, with non-porous film backing, possessing excellent anti-aging properties.

The tape is Acid-free, Archival Grade, PH-Neutral and eminently suitable for hinging art on paper, watercolours, etchings, lithographs, serigraphs, Limited Editions, documents, etc.  Additionally, it can be used for mending, repairing, bonding other art, books and making folders or custom solander boxes.

It enables picture framers, artists, photographers, restorers and other art users to achieve a neat, clean, durable professional finish and result, especially when mounting and matting mounting artwork. Additional conservation, preservation and bookbinding applications include restoration, hinging, mending reinforcing and joining of papers, pages repositioning and repairs to damaged edges.

Physically, it is  white, thin and flexible, yet very strong and engineered for picture framing applications.  To achieve optimal adhesion, the bonding surface should be dry, clean and free of dirt, residues and oils.  The strength of the adhesive bond is dependent on the amount of surface area directly contacting the adhesive.

Firm pressure, or burnishing,  is recommended to obtain good adhesive and maximize surface contact. Once applied, and if required, this Framer's Tape II Archival may be gently removed with a little heat and leaving previously adhered surfaces without tears.

This Framer's Tape II is a trusted and popular choice among professional framers and artists due to its strength and safe, reversible properties for valuable art.

Framer's Tape II Technical Specifications:

This Framer's Tape II is of Archival Quality, Acid Free, Solvent Free, pH neutral and contains no harmful plasticizers thus ensuring it will not yellow or harm artwork over time. The material backing is polypropylene with mylar film backing, moisture-proof, non-porous and remains stable.

Content adhesive is of archival grade emulsion acrylic, pressure-sensitive adhesive and its total thickness is approximately 0.076mm (3 mils).Reversibility is possible and the tape is easily removed with minimal heat (e.g., from a hairdryer or forced hot air) from most surfaces without leaving residue thus allowing for remounting or conservation.

It is stronger and thinner than most linen or paper tapes, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications while remaining low-profile. The peel adhesion from stainless steel is rated at approximately 6.12 N/25 mm and the tensile strength is approximately 142 N/25 mm. The temperature recommended range is between 0°C to 49°C. The tape can be purchased in two disparate finishes, white and clear.
