With our goods van we can transport picture frames over 2 metres long. We deliver after work or on weekends and by prior arrangement. For local deliveries we charge $50, for Melbourne city deliveries $100 and for outside Melbourne as negotiated.
While we use our best endeavours to deliver any goods safely and without damage and have never had a single accident , all deliveries are uninsured and entirely at Customers' risk. Please be aware of this condition when you ask us to deliver your picture frame to you .Naturally customers are free to collect their own frames to arrange their own courier or to make alternative collection arrangements.
You can also hire you own van and come and pick up your picture frames yourself. Hire prices will vary but the average seems to be about $50 for 4 hours' hire plus about 60 cents x kilometre. All hire companies will want a deposit and your Credit Card details. Booking fees often apply. You will also need to be over 21 years old and have a full, valid Driver's Licence. Learner's or Probationary Licences aren't accepted by most van hire businesses because of insurance difficulties.
Other van drivers can be nominated but this normally incurs extra charges. Most hirers offer basic insurance with the van hire but it's quite limited and many hirers opt to pay for extra insurance. All require you to use your own petrol and to return the van with a full fuel tank. You will also need to consider if you can manage loading, securing and unloading a large picture frame all by yourself or you will need someone to help you. What about accidents and insurance or if my huge framed picture gets damaged during the transport why should I bear all the risk? This has actually happened to someone I know and nobody wanted to take responsibility after the vehicle accident in which the van and 2 big mirrors inside were damaged. In that accident, the picture frames mirrors supplier was delivering the frames and he’d already been paid. He wouldn’t refund any money and his insurance company also didn’t want to know because they said the van wasn’t insured four courier or freight risk. The only other option was to sue either of the drivers involved but the money involved wasn’t worth it. So my friend lost about $680 as one mirror was broken and another damaged.
I’ve always enjoyed how impressive and beautiful a big frame can look but the cost and logistics of it just make it too much of hassle. While framers like yourself deliver, if theres no insurance and it get damaged, the whole thing just becomes a mess. Who takes the blame, who compensates who, then the frame and artwork may get damaged. You can control what you do on the road but not everyone else. Unless you have time and money on your side, its best to stick to smaller artwork and frames imo. I have a couple of big canvas pictures in my house. They are easy to transport because they have no glass. I couldn’t imagine trying to move something that size with glass in it.
